Signed – deal to build power plant

KOTA KINABALU: A contract to build the POIC Biomass CHP power plant was signed between Eco Biomass Energy Sdn Bhd (EBE), STX Heavy Industries Malaysia Sdn Bhd and STX Heavy Industries Co Ltd of Korea on Tuesday.
The signing ceremony was held at EBE’s office between the representative of Eco Biomass, Suh Soo Bong, the Chief Executive Officer together with Ian Jeong, the Chief Financial Officer and STX Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. Korea, represented by Kim Jin Sik and STX Heavy Industries Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., by Song Bum Jong.
The 23MW power plant, located at the POIC Lahad Datu on a 20-acre site, is expected to commence construction after the groundbreaking ceremony in September. The construction would take about 24 months and is scheduled for completion in mid 2012.
The POIC Biomass CHP project would be producing electricity and steam in answering the Government’s call to provide green energy under its Small Renewable Energy Project programme.
The project stakeholders are Korean Midland Power Co Ltd (Komipo), Eco Frontier and Korea Infrastructure Investments Asset management Co Ltd, with the finance coming from the Korea Development Bank.
Witnessing the ceremony were Vice President of Komipo, Yoon Kyu Han, and Vice President of Eco Frontier, Jung-Man Chung.
