KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman invites the people of Sabah to offer their feedback and views to help the government ensure success in the six National Key Result Areas (NKRAs).

He said their constructive comments would be able to provide the government a true picture of their needs before implementing a particular policy or programme.

Musa was speaking when launching the state-level Open Day on the Government Transformation Programme at the Magellan Sutera Harbour here yesterday.

“This initiative is in line with the Sabah state government’s commitment to realise the Halatuju Pembangunan & Kemajuan Negeri (Masterplan on the Development & Progress of Sabah) and the Sabah Development Corridor as well as the 10th Malaysia Plan and other development agendas for the benefit of the people.

“This GTP Open Day is the best platform to bring the government closer to the people. I therefore, call on all people in Sabah to make full use of this programme by giving ideas, views and input to the government on their true needs. This is important to enable the people to contribute more positively and significantly so that the government can fulfil their aspirations as the people desire more effectively and holistically,” he said.

Musa also expressed confidence that the “labs” set up by the GTP to expand access to quality and affordable education; improve living standards for the low-income group and to enhance basic infrastructure in the rural areas were all appropriate and relevant to the current needs in Sabah.

“The state government will give full co-operation and commitment to all federal departments and agencies such as the Ministry of Rural & Regional Development, Felda and Felcra to achieve the objectives of the GTP and therefore spur the momentum of development in the rural areas,” he stressed.

Earlier in his speech, he thanked the federal government for its commitment in providing basic rural infrastructure in Sabah to eradicate poverty.

“Making these basic infrastructures available would significantly help the state government’s efforts in reducing poverty, especially hardcore poverty, in line with the concept of 1Malaysia: People First, Performance Now,” he said.

For the duration of the NKRA the federal government allocated the construction of 916km of rural roads in Sabah, 90 per cent coverage of rural water supply and 95 per cent coverage of rural power supply by the year 2012.

“I thank the federal government for agreeing in principle to allocate RM2 billion each for the implementation of rural road and water supply projects from 2010-2012,” he said.

At a press conference later, Musa was pleased to note the GTP Open Day received tremendous response from all state ministers and assistant ministers as well as top state government officers who attended.

To a question, he said civil servants and leaders in Sabah accepted the implementation of the GTP and did not experience any cultural shock from the rapid transformation.

Meanwhile, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (National Integration & Performance Management) Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, said the civil service in Sabah under the leadership of the Chief Minister had already experience various stages of transformation and were therefore familiar with the concept and objectives under the GTP.

I must applaud the CM for working tirelessly in bringing so much development to Sabah. Now I can see he is emphasising much on rural development which I think is a step in the right direction as with good and improved roads and other related infrastructures people are more mobilised in business and social interactions amongst the people from various districts can intensify on its own.Rural roads that connect one district to another will allow greater travel and this will bring greater harmony, understanding and knowledge between people in Sabah and the Interior in particular.

Under the stewardship of our CM,I also noticed that Sabah is enjoying an all round development in many spheres.I am particularly impressed with the development in Kota Kinabalu itself where one can see new buildings ,shopping complexes springing-up like mushrooms. To me this is not just cement and bricks being formed to colour the beautiful city but much more intrinsic-it reflects so much the confidence of the investors in his leadership that they spare no expense in spending their monies in the State. These investments are crucial as the spin-off effects are huge and tremendous.

I also read that many foreign investors are interested to set up their businesses in various districts in Sabah and the latest one is in glass manufacturing. You have done well Datuk, keep it up.

O,yes before I go,I read recently about Sabah youths in KL who are jobless in SAPP blog.Maybe SAPP can volunteer to get these Sabahan youths back in Sabah because under the leadership of our CM,Datuk Musa Aman there are so many jobs openings available to them or maybe this is just crab stories and political gimmicks by SAPP.
