Geothermal power plant costing RM419 mil being built at Apas Kiri, Tawau

KOTA KINABALU: A geothermal power plant costing about RM419 million is being built by Tawau Green Energy Sdn Bhd (TGE) at Apas Kiri , Tawau.

TGE Project Director Andrew Amaladoss said that 36MWe electrical generation is equivalent to 56 million tonnes of carbon equivalent eliminated annually; 13.5 trillion trees planted annually and 45 million cars off the roads annually.

KOTA KINABALU: The Federation of Sabah Manufacturers (FSM) is not asking the Government to abolish the cabotage policy but to fully liberalize the sector between Kota Kinabalu and Port Klang, said its president Datuk Seri Panglima Wong Khen Thau.

He said the federation is not a political organization and only requests that its grievances be addressed.

Kota Kinabalu: Petronas paid Sabah RM941.25 million in oil royalty this year – the highest amount ever in the State’s history, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.

The amount also exceeded the State Government’s initial estimate of RM774.6 million, said Musa, who is also State Finance Minister, at the State Legislative Assembly, Wednesday.

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah State Legislative Assembly yesterday approved provision expenditure for 2013 amounting to RM4.088 billion.

The state budget was tabled by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, who is also state Finance Minister, on Oct 19, 2012 and was debated since Oct 22.

KOTA KINABALU: The Industrial Development Ministry is targeting RM3.883 billion investment with 2,183 jobs in the state by next year, said its minister Datuk Raymond Tan.

In Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) alone, a total of RM640 million potential investment with 1,200 jobs will be brought in, while Palm Oil Industrial Cluster (POIC) in Lahad Datu is expected to attract about RM145 million investment with 385 jobs, Tan said in his winding-up speech at the State Assembly sitting yesterday.

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Ammonia Urea (Samur) project in Sipitang is projected to receive about 10 per cent of the total investment of RM4.5 billion annually.

Sabah Minister of Industrial Development Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah said at present, the significant economic spillover from the project is an increase in land prices, while rental for single-storey houses now reach between RM2,400 to RM3,500 monthly.
