7,024 hectares of forest reserves reclassified for natives

THOUSANDS of hectares of forest reserves will be reclassified to allow them to be used for agricultural and residential purposes by the natives.

This was made possible after the State Assembly yesterday unanimously approved a bill to amend the Forest (Constitution of Forest and Amendment) Enacment 1984 to exclude a total of 7,024 hectares from several forest reserves.

2,200 jobs created with setting up of palm oil downstream factories

A TOTAL of 2,200 jobs have been created with the setting up of palm oil downstream processing factories and warehouses at the Lahad Datu Palm Oil Industrial Cluster (Lahad Datu POIC).
Most of the jobs are held by locals including those from Lahad Datu, said Minister of Industrial Development Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah at the State Assembly sitting here yesterday.

Sedco makes RM7 million loan repayment

KOTA KINABALU: The State government yesterday received RM7 million in loan repayment from Sabah Economic Development Corporation (Sedco).

Sedco chairman Datuk Haji Mohd Arifin Haji Md Arif handed over the payment to the Finance Ministry’s permanent secretary Datuk Pengiran Hassanel Tahir during a brief ceremony held at the State Assembly building here.

The oil palm industry contributed more than 30 per cent of the country’s total exports last year.
